Typographers' Lunch @ Gaspereau Press

Gaspereau Press is a little Canadian publishing company based out of Kentville, Nova Scotia. They do stunning editions of literary texts using on old and new printing technologies and techniques. I was lucky enough to be able to visit the press last week on the birthday of the late Glenn Goluska, a great Canadian book designer and friend of the press. Goluska had left a lot of his old printing equipment to the press when he passed in 2011, and to celebrate his birthday, owners Andrew Steeves and Gary Dunfield had a few friends out for lunch. Afterwards we came back to the press, where they had Goluska's old Linotype machine out and running. I had never been to the press before, so the experience was thrilling on many levels: I got to meet Andrew and Gary, meet some more very interesting people, see the place where the MAGIC happens, and even see an old Linotype in action, which was really something else.

Deep Hollow Print:

The space is also home to Deep Hollow Print, a wonderful Letterpress printshop owned and operated by Laura MacDonald. I snapped some photos of her work and workshop as well.
